Over the past year, we have witnessed an overwhelming response from our communities to the pandemic with a huge increase in volunteering and mutual aid.

People quickly came together to respond to the crisis, developed new local connections and relationships, shared resources, and made the very best use of local assets. This give a sense of community power, where individuals and communities are able to take action to improve their own and others’ lives.

There are many other examples of community power across East Ayrshire and we want to extend the opportunities to strengthen this through, for example, community-led regeneration, participatory budgeting and community asset transfer.

We know that many communities will have ideas for how buildings, land or other assets can be used for community benefit. Our budget conversations recognise that community power is key to our recovery and renewal and we want to work with you to make this happen.
