Direct debit

We offer a range of options for Council Tax payments.

The easiest way to pay is by Direct Debit which is quick to set up and payments are covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee. If you pay by Direct Debit, you can choose to pay over 10 or 12 months and payments can be collected on 1st, 15th or 28th of each month. Even if your account is in arrears, we may still be able to set up a Direct Debit to collect your current year’s Council Tax.

Please note if you or your bank/building society cancel your Direct Debit whilst a balance remains outstanding, an adjustment notice will be issued to you.

Setting up a direct debit

We offer a paperless Direct Debit service. All you need to do is contact our Revenues and Benefits team on 01563 554400. To set up your Direct Debit you will need your bank details and Council Tax reference number.

Alternatively, you can complete the paper form enclosed with your Council Tax bill.

Standing order

Although Council Tax can be paid by standing order, it is your responsibility to set this up.

You must complete a new mandate every time the amount changes and you must notify your bank. You must also inform your bank to use the New Year’s reference number otherwise your Council Tax account will not be credited.

Payments made by standing order can only be made on 1st of each month unlike Direct Debit which offers a range of payment dates.
