Traditional joinery

Mauchline CARS Joinery IconMauchline Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) with the support of the Scottish Lime Centre Trust (SLCT) produced a training programme for traditional building skills.

Course information

We hosted our third training course on Wednesday 20 September 2023, Traditional Joinery for Windows and Doors hosted in Mauchline & District Kilmarnock Supporters Club, Mauchline.

The course focused upon common repairs for sash and case windows and tips to avoid deterioration, including a short history of the development of windows before looking at the different components that make up a window, and the issues to consider when approaching repairs.

Topics covered included:

  • window dismantling and reassembly
  • replacing ropes
  • weights
  • panes and putty

Thank you again to all who participated and again to our instructor Mitchell Fothergham from The Scottish Lime Centre Trust and our hosts at Mauchline & District Kilmarnock Supporters Club.

We hope all attendees found the course beneficial and informative to support appropriate maintenance and repair of traditional timber sash and case windows.
