Traditional masonry

Mauchline CARS Masonry IconMauchline Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) with the support of the Scottish Lime Centre Trust (SLCT) produced a training programme for traditional building skills.

Course information

We hosted our first training course on Monday 4 September 2023, a week long course for Traditional Rubble Wall Building and Re-Pointing hosted at Dumfries House.

The course was delivered by our training partner the Scottish Lime Centre Trust under the supervision of their Stonemason and Principal Trainer - Stan Stenhouse.

During this busy, week long course attendees learned how to build solid, freestanding walls using local sandstone, all bedded and pointed up using traditional lime mortars.

Thank you to all who participated along with our partners at The Scottish Lime Centre and Dumfries House. We hope all attendees found the course enjoyable and useful.
