Provost and Depute Provost
The roles of Provost and Depute Provost are principally of a civic and ceremonial nature, and they attend events and engagements at which the Council should have a presence.
With regard to Royal visits, the Provost and Depute Provost always represent the Council in the protocol party and have the lead role in conjunction with arrangements put in place by the Lord Lieutenant.
They each wear a chain of office when they undertake civic duties. These chains incorporate the Coat of Arms, letting everyone know that the Council's civic leaders represent not just the Council, but everyone in East Ayrshire.
At the Council meeting on 31 October 2024, Councillor Claire Leitch was appointed as Provost and Councillor John McGhee was appointed as Depute Provost.
