Apply for the garden maintenance scheme
About the scheme
The garden maintenance scheme is provided for East Ayrshire Council tenants who are unable to look after their garden and require help to do so.
The scheme consists of:
- nine grass cuts (three weekly cycles throughout the growing season) and
- three hedge cuts (eight weekly cycles throughout the growing season)
- one spray of weed-killer
The timing of these cuts is weather and ground condition dependant and schedules dates may be adjusted accordingly.
Eligibility
To qualify for the scheme, you must have a confirmed permanent physical disability or have reached the age of 60, and have no one living with you aged 16-59 who is able to look after the garden.
Please note, where a household member aged 16-59 is a Registered Carer, this will not be considered as part of our assessment process, however applicants will be required to provide supporting evidence to confirm receipt of a Carer's Allowance.
Tenants applying on the grounds of disability will be required to provide supporting evidence to confirm that they are unable to look after their garden.
If tenants have someone living in their home who is aged 16-59 and is not a Registered Carer, supporting evidence will also be required to confirm that no one within the household is able to maintain the garden.
Supporting evidence can include a letter from a healthcare professional confirming that the tenant or household member aged 16-59 is not fit to maintain the garden, or confirmation that the tenant or household member aged 16-59 is in receipt of Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Personal Independence Payment (PIP).
There is currently a charge of £30 per year for the garden maintenance scheme but if you receive help towards the cost of your rent via Universal Credit or Housing Benefit, the scheme is free.
