Street lighting update
March 2025
Following detailed surveys completed by Ayrshire Roads Alliance it was revealed that replacing the lighting across Loudoun Street would carry multiple complications and challenges. This would also most likely exceed the budget we had allocated for these projects.
We understand these findings are disappointing, however we are happy to share we have managed to progress matters related to all other aspects of the planned lighting update.
We aim to progress works towards the replacement of the current street lighting within Loudoun Street Car Park and replacement and repair to lighting across the medieval lanes and Churchyard.
With the support of Ayrshire Roads Alliance and East Ayrshire Council's Procurement team we have now gained costings for the works via a competitive tender process. Following review of this we will be in a position to progress works and appoint the preferred contractor. We hope to instruct these works within the next few weeks, however we will do our best to update you of any progress.

Flowerbed at Loudoun Car Park
February 2025
We began collaborating with the Mauchline Burns Club and Kays Curling Stone Factory to facilitate improvement works to the flowerbed at the entrance of Loudoun Street Car Park, attached to the Fairburn Hotel.
Planned improvements include:
- granite sculpture with curling stone and plaque gifted by Kays Curling Stone Factory
- planting gifted by the Mauchline Burns Club
- area overturned, new top soil and install of sculpture by East Ayrshire Council's Greener Communities team.
We hope to arrange a community planting day for anyone interested to join us to help add the finishing touches to the space. More details to follow.
Improvements to the medieval core and lanes
February 2025
Following a review of the current condition of the medieval core of Mauchline, the lanes and cobbles behind the Church, we have instructed East Ayrshire Council's Greener Communities team to complete a programme of repair works to improve the area.
Improvements include:
- repairs and re-setting of cobbles in area around Church Hall
- clean and paint all railings
- clean and paint all bollards – where bollards were previously lit, re-fabricate and remove plastic insert
We hope to have these repairs completed within the next few months.
New benches and planters
July 2024
In collaboration with Mauchline Community Council we recently submitted a successful application for additional grant funding from the Renewable Energy Fund.
The funds are planned to support the manufacture and installation of some additional street furniture around the village including:
- six new benches, bespoke designed for Mauchline and to be installed in and around the village
- new planters at The Cross and the rear of Loudoun Street Car Park
Benches and planters manufactured by East Ayrshire Council's Greener Communities team, and benches designed by East Ayrshire Council's Graphic Designer Jonny Burn.
We would like to thank all parties involved with this project. A special thanks to the Renewable Energy Fund for their support of our project.
Traditional street signage
June 2024
As part of our public realm improvements we plan to replace some of the street signage around our Conservation Area.
These signs are cast to create the appearance of a traditional cast iron sign. Examples of these styles of signs can be seen in historic pictures of the village and there is still three historic signs still in situ around the village, can you find them?
The first phase of signs have been installed with the second phase to be installed following the completion of the grant aided works planned for the properties of which the signs are attached to.

Bollard and railing improvements
May 2023
In preparation for the Holy Fair this year we recently completed a small improvement to our public realm with thanks to our Greener Communities team.
The Greener Communities team have completed improvement works to all railings and bollards across the A76 portion of the conservation area.
We think they look great, what do you think?
