Supported and sheltered housing

There are many specialist services provided for older people. The main aim of the Council is to assist older people to remain living at home where this is possible. Many services can be provided to people in their current homes but for some older people a move to smaller or supported accommodation may be the better option.
Supported accommodation is the term we use to denote all kinds of accommodation designated as being for older people where there is some form of support or care service provided with the tenancy. Often called sheltered housing or amenity housing, we have produced an information booklet about supported accommodation for older people. It contains information on all the different kinds of supported accommodation for older people available throughout East Ayrshire. It can be obtained from any housing or social work office or you can download a copy under further information.
Although very high levels of need for support and personal care services can be met in high needs schemes it is sometimes the case that someone's particular needs would be better met by a move to a care home. If you think that such a move could be the best option, then you should contact social work to discuss the situation further.
