Housing support is available to people living in East Ayrshire and aims to prevent and alleviate homelessness. Support is available to those living in homeless temporary accommodation and will continue when they move into permanent accommodation.

The housing support officer can provide support in a number of ways to help individuals keep their tenancies. This can be through information, advice or more practical support. For example:

  • accompanying you to view a new home
  • helping you access furniture
  • help you to apply for benefits
  • helping you to manage your money
  • homemaking skills
  • general advice on housing issues
  • attending meetings, appeals and reviews with you
  • helping you to complete forms
  • helping you manage day to day correspondence such as letters or bills
  • arranging for the supply of gas and electricity
  • registering with a GP
  • planning weekly shopping
  • helping you to voice your opinions and be heard
  • accessing other services - mental health, addictions, health, money advice
  • offering you the opportunity to have someone you can speak to
  • supporting clients to address underlying issues which may affect personal confidence or behaviour
  • promote positive interaction and behaviour by providing access to a range of educational and training opportunities
