Building standards charter and register

We administer legislation controlling the erection, demolition, conversion, extension and alteration of buildings to safeguard the health and safety of people who use or are around them.

We also have an input into the enforcement of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 1976 and the Safety of Sport Grounds Act 1975. 

Our Building Standards Customer Charter is our commitment to customer service.

Our surveyors examine plans and proposals to check that they comply with technical standards. They also assess and initiate action to deal with emergencies under the Dangerous Buildings Procedure.

Building standards register

As verifiers in terms of Section 24 of the Building (Scotland) Act 2003 we maintain a register of Building Warrants, Completion Certificates and Enforcement Notices. 

The Building Standards Register is split into two parts:

1. Part one contains property data.
2. Part two contains supporting documents, specification and plans is available for limited access to interested parties only.
