A Renewal of Vows Ceremony is for any married couple or civil partners that wish to celebrate renewing their vows in a unique and personal ceremony.

Often these ceremonies are associated with a special wedding anniversary such as the tenth, twentieth, fortieth etc, but the ceremony is just as appropriate for couples at any stage of marriage.

Many couples who get married abroad choose to renew their vows in a special event held for family and friends on their return for them to share in their celebration.

You can arrange a renewal of vows ceremony no matter your age or how long you have been together, and it does not matter if you do not live in the area where you want your ceremony.

Renewal of Vows Ceremonies can contain the following sections:

  • introduction and welcome
  • acknowledgement of any children of the marriage/civil partnership
  • readings
  • renewal of vows
  • rededication of rings, giving of new rings or gifts
  • words from previous wedding guests
  • closing words
  • signing of certificate

The Renewal of Vows Ceremony is as individual as the couple arranging the celebration. Our team are here to help you create and develop your tailor-made ceremony to your personal requirements.

There are many ways to make your ceremony a very special and unique event and our team will be happy to discuss all the options open to you.

A souvenir certificate is signed during the ceremony by the couple and two witnesses.

A Renewal of Vows Ceremony has no legal status, and is not legally binding on those who participate.

Renewal of Vows Ceremonies can be held at the Burns Monument Centre, Kay Park, Kilmarnock, or at other venues in East Ayrshire as agreed between the couple, the venue owner and the Registration Services Manager.

Tips on how to get the best from your Renewal of Vows Ceremony

Take time to consider which options are appropriate and have special meaning to you.

As you consider the choices and make your selections you will be creating a unique ceremony by reflecting your commitment to one another that will be fondly remembered by you and your guests.

Special people in your lives can take part in your ceremony: your children, guests who were at the wedding/civil partnership, and any friends or relatives. You will also need to ask two people to witness the signing of the souvenir commemorative certificate of the event.

Please note every ceremony is unique, reflecting a special and personal meaning to the couple making commitments to each other. We therefore do not conduct ceremonies for more than one couple at the same time.
