Sheepdog rounding sheep

Under the terms of the Animal Health Act 1981, there are regulations in Scotland governing the health and welfare of animals.

We conduct regular visits to farms and markets to ensure that current animal health legislation is adhered to.  We also attend welfare problems with veterinary officials to advise farmers of good practice regarding their livestock husbandry.

If we encounter particularly serious problems relating to animal welfare, then it is our duty to make a report to the Procurator Fiscal.

Dog fouling

Dog owners should clean up after their dog in public places - you can report dog fouling that isn't cleaned up.

Animal health and welfare

If you own an animal, you must ensure that its welfare needs are met.
