The role of enforcement is to reduce road traffic accidents by ensuring that road users follow the traffic laws. This function is carried out by Strathclyde Police who have a major responsibility for the enforcement of traffic law and for traffic control, and for the collection of road accident data.
The Road Policing department is responsible for providing road policing on 8,500 miles of road in the Strathclyde area. The concept of road policing is centred on two main issues:
- reduction of road casualties
- tackling all aspects of road crime that affect the quality of life in our communities
