Ayrshire and Arran has long been famous for the quality of its food, such as the Ayrshire 'tattie' and Dunlop cheeses. Nowadays, there is an even greater variety of local produce available from meat and fish products, fruit, vegetables and herbs through to delicious ice-creams, cakes, bespoke drinks and handmade sweets.
Buying local produce is becoming more popular in our environmentally conscious society. The Ayrshire Food Network was established in 2002 to promote the diversity and quality of the food products available across the local area to business and household markets.
You can buy produce at a number of local farmers markets and farm shops. Many award winning hotels and restaurants too are members of the Ayrshire Food Network, specialising in offering local food on their menus.
