Visitors and locals can learn about the history of Kilmarnock with the Kilmarnock Town Trail (PDF 2.62Mb) - a walking trail exploring Kilmarnock's history and architecture.
Originally produced as part of a Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme (CARS) and Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) for Kilmarnock - funded in part by East Ayrshire Council, the Heritage Lottery Fund and Historic Environment Scotland Scotland – the trail was researched and pulled together by local-born physics teacher Graham Boyd with help from his colleagues and Kilmarnock and District History Group.
Originally aimed at encouraging primary school children to look afresh at the town’s historic buildings, the trail now encourages people of all ages to take a tour of 13 sites of historical interest within the town centre.
