Our themed actions for the Northern Locality Action Plan are listed below:

Addictions and stigma

Actions

  1. Work in partnership with the Alcohol and Drugs Partnership (ADP) to reduce the negative perceptions commonly associated with substance misuse and addiction
  2. Equity of access – work with the ADP and other partners to support drug and alcohol users access support services for social isolation and loneliness

Desired outcome

Addiction stigma is no longer a barrier for individuals seeking support and treatment they need.

Participation and engagement

Actions

  1. Develop and implement a ‘Localities Communications Charter’ and establish a common locality planning group approach to information sharing with our communities
  2. Work with engagement officer and partners to establish community sessions to ensure the different communities in the north locality are kept informed of health and wellbeing local events and services
  3. Coordinate a participatory budgeting exercise within the northern locality and in doing so promote greater engagement with residents, community groups and representative of all parts of the wider community

We undertake regular engagement with our communities to better understand their needs and they are key participants in designing and delivering initiatives that achieve improvements in the health and wellbeing of residents.

Actions

Explore opportunities for working with Economy and Skills services to improve employability in the north locality.

Our work with partners is contributing to reducing rates of poverty within the northern locality and across East Ayrshire.

Safety in the home and the community

Actions

  1. In partnership the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), identify and contribute a range of initiatives aimed at improving safety in the home and the wider community
  2. In partnership with SFRS provide opportunity for partners and community groups to access fire safety and CPR training

Desired outcome

Rates of accidental fires in the home have reduced and communities have a greater awareness of everyday fire risks that are present in the home.

Social isolation and loneliness

Actions

  1. Support community roll-out of training opportunities for ‘Hear to Listen Campaign’ training package
  2. Work with partners to increase accessibility and to develop a co-ordinated approach to signposting individuals to support services

Establish partnership approach with Pathfinder Project to identify and find solutions to transport issues in the northern locality.
