Our Food Safety team is responsible for inspecting all types of food premises and ensuring that they and the practices of food handlers comply with the relevant legislation.
There are currently around 1,300 food premises in East Ayrshire, ranging from food factories, bakeries, butchers' shops and hotels to restaurants, takeaway food premises, mobile shops and catering vehicles.
Food Hygiene Information Scheme
The Food Hygiene Information Scheme is being rolled out throughout Scotland. The national message - 'Where are you really eating out?' - has been designed to challenge people's assumptions about hygiene levels at local restaurants and eateries.
East Ayrshire Council launched the scheme on 25 March 2013. Each food business within the scope of the scheme will be provided with a certificate and sticker showing how well they fared at their last food hygiene inspection.
More information can be found on the Food Standards Agency website.
