The Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 give you legal rights to see information held by East Ayrshire Council.

All you have to do is ask for the information. You don't have to say why you want it, or what you want it for.  If you need help in asking for information we will be pleased to assist you and we will respond to your request within 20 working days. Some types of information can be kept back for good reasons, but you will be given these reasons if we consider they apply to your request.  If you don't agree, you have the right to ask us to review our handling of your request and after that you can appeal to the Independent Scottish Information Commissioner.

How to make a Freedom of Information Request

Anyone requesting information under the Environmental Information (Scotland) Regulations 2004 may also use the Freedom of Information Service to make a request. These regulations are very similar to Freedom of Information, but apply specifically to information concerning the environment.  Please see above link for further information.

We welcome requests for information about the Council and the services we provide. We have developed a number of facilities to make it easy to access information about the Council.

Publication scheme

All Scottish Public Authorities are required to have a Publication Scheme which sets out details of how to request information, any possible charges and provides a guide to information available from the authority. East Ayrshire Council has adopted the Scottish Information Commissioner’s single model publication scheme.

In conjunction with the Publication Scheme we have developed a Guide to Information which sets out in detail the information we make available and describes our charges and the different ways you can request information.

If the information you require is not available from the Guide to Information, then you can make a specific request for information. These requests are best submitted in writing. That way we can be clear about what information you require and how we can contact you with the information.

For further help or assistance with this please contact our Freedom of Information Officer using the details below.
