Getting about in East Ayrshire doesn’t have to mean jumping in the car. A wide variety of environmentally friendly transport methods are available. These can save you money and, in many cases, help to improve your health and fitness.

Cycling

Many of the paths in East Ayrshire are suitable for cycling as well as walking. There are also dedicated cycle lanes and paths meaning that East Ayrshire is well served for cyclists. The national cycle network is a comprehensive network of safe and attractive routes for cycling throughout the UK which follow traffic free paths as much as possible. Cycle lockers are also available at Kilmarnock and Cumnock bus stations and are provided at Kilmarnock Railway Station.

Walking

The Scottish Outdoor Access Code means everyone has a right to be on most land and inland water for recreation, education and for going from place to place providing they act responsibly.

Park and ride schemes

Park and ride facilities are car parks with connections to public transport that allow commuters and others wishing to travel to leave their personal vehicles in a car park and transfer to public transport for the rest of their journey. Park and ride is currently operated in East Ayrshire by First ScotRail at New Cumnock, Auchinleck, Kilmarnock, Kilmaurs, Stewarton and Dunlop railway stations.
