Our Locality Service for children, young people and their families aims to assess, plan, develop and deliver a range of supports to children, young people and their families.

This is done in partnership with other agencies in order to enhance their social skills, improve relationships and promote positive lifestyles. 

Objectives

The objectives of the Locality Service for children, young people and their families are:

  • to provide support to children and families in need
  • to respond to requests and assess the need for a social work service
  • to undertake assessments (with a focus on strengths, needs, risks and capacity)
  • to undertake the role of lead professional (where appropriate) to ensure close collaboration between agencies
  • to develop (or contribute to the development of) a single plan around the child
  • to intervene early so that children get the help they need when they need it
  • to investigate, assess and intervene with children referred through child protection procedures
  • to value and respect different approaches to bringing up children 
  • to work to build trust with parents who find it hard to engage with services
  • to provide programmed individual and group work in areas such as youth offending, substance misuse, handling teenage behaviour and safe decision making 
  • to support young people in transition from child care settings to independent living
  • to support young people in tackling substance misuse
  • to provide a service to young people in the adult justice system
