A full set of waste and recycling bins must be purchased from Cleaner Communities for all new build properties receiving a waste collection service.
Planning approvals from 2 July 2018
Planning developers must pay for bins when requesting street names and property numbers for the properties to be developed.
Planning approvals before 2 July 2018
Cleaner Communities receives a list of all developments which have received full planning permission. Before a property is occupied for the first time, a Notification of Occupancy form must be completed and returned to Cleaner Communities.
Bins will only be supplied once this form has been received.
Bin requirements
To meet health and safety standards and ensure compatibility with collection vehicles, all bins must be supplied by Cleaner Communities. Properties using non-approved bins will not receive a collection service.
With the exception of communal waste areas, which are identified and agreed at the planning application stage, a typical residential property requires:
- 1 x 240 Litre green bin (general waste)
- 1 x 240 Litre brown bin (garden waste)
- 1 x 240 Litre blue bin (paper and card)
- 1 x 240 Litre red bin (plastic, cartons, cans)
- 1 x 140 Litre purple bin (glass)
- 1 x external food caddy (for food collections)
- 1 x internal food caddy (to be kept in kitchen)
Residents can also present excess recyclable materials in bags, as well as bagged textiles, small electrical items and household batteries alongside their recycling bins.
Cost of bins
The cost of a full set of waste and recycling bins is £139.46.
For developments approved before 2 July 2018, developers are required to notify occupancy on a per-property basis, and will be invoiced as each property becomes occupied.
Self-build and owner-occupier properties can pay by card.
