Since the Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) Bill, was introduced in 2019, local authorities have a legal duty to make sure free period products are available for all who need them.

Many girls and women are unable to meet the relatively high cost of basic sanitary products, meaning they might miss school or work, lose confidence or have to forego opportunities because they can’t afford to buy them.

The Act, Period Products (Free Provision) (Scotland) states that everyone in Scotland should have convenient access to period products, free of charge, as and when they are required. This includes visitors to East Ayrshire for the duration of their stay.

With the help of funding from the Scottish Government, and thanks to this law, we are striving to end period poverty. As part of this, and to help us make sure our provision meets everyone's needs, we are now consulting and would like to hear your views.

Why your views matter

We want to hear what you have to say so we can make sure that:

  • people know that are free sanitary products are available
  • everyone can easily pick up what they need locally
  • you can influence where people in communities can get the products easily
  • you pass on the information to friends, family and those who need them
