Summary of policy aims East Ayrshire Council is committed to the inter-related values of Quality, Equality, Access and Partnership. This is founded in the belief that the diverse range of talents, skills, experience, cultural and social diversity and perspective found within society should also be reflected within the composition of the council's workforce, its employment practices and procedures and in the manner it delivers services to the people of East Ayrshire. As the largest employer and a provider of public services in the area, the Council recognises that it has a key role to play in tackling discrimination and disadvantage by ensuring that all communities, individuals and groups are treated with dignity and respect and respect
Key issues The introduction of this policy is to ensure the Council supports its employees and residents have equitable access to employment/training and services. This policy ensure that the Council fosters a culture that empowers employees and residents to come forward with concerns, treat each other with dignity, respect.
Summary of involvement with Groups Regular review of Policy during quarterly Equalities Forum, where updates were discussed evaluated and where required recommendations made.There was also consultation with the employee population via the Trade Unions.The policy was also benchmarked against recommendations made by Close the Gap where gaps were identified to assist in meeting the requirement for ESAW accreditation, the policy was updated.
Key recommendations To approve the policy as the largest employer and a provider of public services in the area, the Council recognises that it has a key role to play in tackling discrimination and disadvantage by ensuring that all communities, individuals and groups are treated with dignity and respect and respect, and this policy outlines how the Council will ensure that tackles all forms of discrimination.
