We can only investigate complaints about:
- food businesses located in East Ayrshire
- food purchased from businesses based in East Ayrshire
What may happen during an investigation
Depending on the circumstances, we will decide on what appropriate action is required. This may include:
- If the necessary details are available, we may collect the food and send it for laboratory testing.
- We may visit the business that sold the product to gather more information. Any remaining stock may be examined and could be withdrawn or seized.
- We will notify the seller, manufacturer or importer, depending on the circumstances, if the complaint appears valid.
- We will inform the home or originating authority of the manufacturer.
- If the investigation shows a problem outside our own area it may be necessary to inform other local authorities, or in extreme cases Food Standards Scotland so that they can instigate a food alert or a product recall.
