Summary of policy aims This Policy document gives general information about East Ayrshire Council's maternity, adoption, paternity and shared parental leave provisions and helps employee make their own decisions about options for leave. The Policy reflects the FACE qualities and behaviours adopted by the Council. The HR Business Partner reviewed what currently exists, what changes to legislation have taken place since the last review, and considered anything new that requires be included as part of the policy. This was all discussed as part of a working group created to review the policy.
Key issues This policy support employees who access maternity, paternity, and shared parental leave. it gives expectant parents the opportunity to take leave that suits their requirements regardless of their protected characteristics.
Summary of involvement with Groups A cross service working group was established to review this policy which consisted of Trade Union members, who represent employees of the Council, colleagues in People and Culture, and employee with lived experience.
Key recommendations This policy has gone through considerable consultation and a benchmarking exercise was undertaken to ensure that all options were considered that takes account the protected characteristics. This policy supports an equitable process for employee who access maternity, adoption, paternity and shared parental leave within East Ayrshire Council.
