The paper brings forward proposals for the promotion of Orders which would apply pavement parking exemptions in certain streets. These streets have undergone an assessment process and strict criteria have been applied throughout the decision-making process. Exemptions are only proposed within 24 EAC streets where the road would otherwise become impassable (if shifting vehicles onto the road) and where a minimum of 1.5m of clear footway can still be maintained. This criteria has been set by Transport Scotland specifically with wheelchair users, parents with prams, and other vulnerable users in mind and this is applied nationally.
The paper also seeks to apply additional waiting restrictions in 4 streets to ensure they remain passable and this will further enhance the overall safety of all road and pavement users.
