The population of East Ayrshire affected are all those who own a property served by a private water supply taking in potentially all of the identified groups. The largest impact will be for those which are a Regulated Supply and these properties have a commercial element and an associated business which generates income. The legislation increases the duties on Registered Landlords and will protect the tenants of these properties. Any requests for samples associated with illness or complaint regarding quality will not attract a charge. Any requests for sampling for smaller supplies tend to be as a result of a house sale. Properties supplied by a private water supply do not pay the water supply element of their council tax which costs between £154 and £505 based on current year costs.
