Did you know that 69% of food waste in East Ayrshire is being put in our household waste bin instead of our food recycling bin?
For every new household that recycles their food waste using their kerbside Caddy, our local authority saves £12.94 per year.

Community caddy mission for 2024 to 2025
This session we are continuing our mission to ensure all of the food waste we do have, is recycled correctly as part of our food waste recycling at home campaign – Dinnae forget your Caddy!
Our East Ayrshire resident employees, along with our early years centres, primary and secondary schools have taken on the challenge of raising awareness of the food items that can be recycled and encouraging more families across East Ayrshire to recycle their food waste at home.
What’s involved
Early years and primary schools
You can:
- name and design your family’s kerbside Caddy
- recycle your food waste at home, present your Caddy for collection each week and you'll automatically be entered into our Recycling Crew's 'Favourite Caddy of the Month' draw
- complete Cairey’s Challenge by finding a Caddy Buddy – encourage one more person to recycle their food waste and present their Caddy for collection each week – every Caddy counts!
Secondary schools and East Ayrshire resident employees
You can:
- name and design your family’s kerbside Caddy
- recycle your food waste at home and present your Caddy for collection each week and you'll automatically be entered into our Recycling Crew's 'Favourite Caddy of the Month' draw
- share your knowledge – encourage one more person to recycle their food waste and present their Caddy for collection each week – every Caddy counts!
How it works
Our Recycling Crews will be looking out for your named decorated caddies along their routes.
Each month between November 2024 and May 2025, they will choose their ‘Favourite Caddy of the Month’ and the family will win a £50 gift card!
So remember, ‘Cairey’ your Caddy out to make your Caddy count!
