Learning about the importance of play

Families in north-west Kilmarnock learned about the importance of play recently at two events run by The Avenue Childcare Service.

Funding for the events came from the Council’s Participatory Budgeting programme following a bid made by The Avenue for £1000 to run the parent and child workshops.

The first event involved Outdoor Play with den building, a mud kitchen, sand, water and messy play, and the second was themed around Communication and Language, and featured stories and songs, as well as sensory and messy play.

The Participatory Budgeting funding helped with staffing for the events and allowed the service to buy resources and gift bags which contained information about the benefits of play as well as seed planting kits and bug hunting kits to encourage the children and their families to continue with outdoor play at home.
