The Provost, Elected Members and Officers of East Ayrshire Council are deeply saddened to learn of the death of HRH The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.
Provost Jim Todd said: “It is with great sadness that we learnt of the death of His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, whose dedication and longevity of service to the UK and the Commonwealth were both greatly admired and respected.
“His Royal Highness was clearly a loyal and loving support to Her Majesty the Queen over many decades, and his guiding role as a father, grandfather and great-grandfather was equally evident.
“Many of our young people in East Ayrshire, past and present, are still reaping the benefits of achieving a Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. It is a scheme that will undoubtedly continue to grow and transform young lives from all backgrounds, cultures and abilities, serving as an ongoing and fitting tribute to His Royal Highness.
“On behalf of the people of East Ayrshire, I wish to convey our deepest sympathy to Her Majesty and members of the Royal family at this sad time.”
