Family Funfest returns with a virtual reality pop up!

Kilmarnock Town Centre’s summer activities at the Cross have already proven a big draw for shoppers and families. The second Family Funfest, which includes a “virtual reality experience”, on Friday 4 August, looks set to attract the crowds once again.

Running from 11.30am – 3.30pm the day will feature free activities for all the family, live music including the Mickey Boyle Blues Band and a musical performance by children from local theatre group, Take a Bow.

Street theatre will include a Punch and Judy show and the brilliant comedy duo “Harbuck and Futtock” whose entertainment includes the creation of lovely hats!

The first Family Funfest featured giant games, which will make a welcome return along with Magical Mayhem, a children’s entertainer who captivated the younger audience on his first visit.

Budding artists of any age can contribute to the creation of an “on-street” artwork, while Utopia Computers’ first ever Virtual Reality Pop Up experience in the Burns Mall is sure to be a  big hit.

The Family Fun Fest is just part of a summer long programme of events staged by Fiona Nicolson, Town Centre Manager and her team from East Ayrshire Council’s Economic Development Service. She explains: “Over the past few years we’ve been delighted with the response we’ve had to our regular events, such as the Global Market, Christmas Lights Switch on and Friday Summer Slots. Kilmarnock Cross is an ideal venue for theatre, workshops and musical entertainment and the public really appreciate and respond to it. Thanks to local talent, the co-operation of Utopia Computers and sponsorship from the Burns Mall, we’ve been able to lay on two of these Family Fun Days, alongside our free themed workshops which are running on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12.00 – 4.00pm until 3rd August

“It’s all about increasing footfall and making the best use of our town centre. Increasingly people are realising that a visit to Kilmarnock is not just about shopping, it’s about relaxing, having fun as a family, meeting friends and making the most of summer in the town. There’s so much going on at Family Funfest it’s an ideal opportunity to get together with family and friends and come and enjoy”
