Galston’s Cross Street Co-op has started a shuttle bus service to transport customers to the Post Office in nearby Kilmarnock whilst the store, which incorporates Galston’s own Post Office, is temporarily closed due to structural issues.
The temporary service will operate one return journey per day between Galston and Kilmarnock, Monday to Friday.
Kilmarnock’s Post Office sits within a WH Smith store in King Street and is located within a pedestrian zone – the bus driver will drop off and pick up passengers at an appropriate point within walking distance from King Street. Seats are on a first-come, first-served basis.
The shuttle bus service timetable is as follows:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays
• 11.00am Galston, Cross Street – Kilmarnock town centre
• 12.00pm Kilmarnock town centre – Galston, Cross Street
A Co-op spokesperson said: “We are very conscious that the people of Galston need access to a Post Office whilst Galston’s own Post Office services are temporarily unavailable. By implementing this shuttle bus we hope to make the situation a little easier for people who live in the town.”
The Co-op store at 7, Cross Street remains temporarily closed due to structural issues. The Co-op is working with East Ayrshire Council, who own the building, to re-evaluate the situation but in the meantime shoppers can use the Co-op store on Polwarth Street which is just 250 metres away.
