East Ayrshire celebrated a first in Scotland after lifting an award at the inaugural Tenants Information Service (TIS) National Excellence Awards Ceremony.
The glittering ceremony held at the Crowne Plaza hotel in Glasgow, recognised excellence in scrutiny practice; particularly case studies which could inspire future tenant scrutiny development in Scotland.
East Ayrshire Council picked up the award for Scrutiny Excellence in recognition of the relationship between the Council, the East Ayrshire Tenants and Residents Federation (EATRF) and tenants. This partnership has demonstrated a track record of achievements and good practice; has established excellent working relationships and has established successful lines of communication ensuring that tenants are kept informed of any scrutiny feedback.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council said: “I am delighted Housing and Housing Asset Services have been recognised at this level for the outstanding partnership work that has evolved between the Council, the EATRF and our tenants. This is the result of hard work and a commitment to ensure continuous improvement within Housing by building positive working relationships.
“By inviting the EATRF to scrutinise our working practises and housing improvements, it means we are working transparently and building trust. This relationship is extremely beneficial and I hope other local authorities can benefit from this approach in the future.”
Awards were also presented on the night for exceptional tenant led scrutiny activities which have created an outstanding improvement or change to individuals, the wider community, the landlord and Housing Services.
