Shop Local! It’s a message that’s close to the hearts of shoppers and retailers in Cumnock. Town Centre Manager, Fiona Nicolson has worked with local retailers for years to encourage local people to look again at the huge variety of goods and services on offer in the town. And now the campaign is getting a boost with a new free listings publication, to showcase local businesses without costing them a penny.
Create Communications, has been appointed to compile and publish a new Shop Local guide, building on the success of a previous guide issued in 2013 which gave a noticeable boost to trade in the town. Town Centre Manager, Fiona Nicolson explains: “Retail in Cumnock has gone through some tough times, with recession, which hit everyone, job losses and the winding down of the Glaisnock Centre ahead of its imminent demolition. But we’re entering a new era in the town, with regeneration projects starting to make a difference to our historic buildings, increasing activity at Dumfries House, the fantastic world class Cumnock Tryst festival, and the opening of 7 brand new units at Townhead Street. These new shops have given some of our local retailers a fantastic new opportunity and already they are gaining new customers from residents who had not previously visited the Glaisnock precinct.
“All of this makes now an ideal time for shoppers to take another look at what’s available locally. For retailers and other businesses this presents a great opportunity to advertise what they offer, at no cost to themselves. That’s why we’re asking everyone who’s interested in participating to get in touch with Create Communications as soon as possible to ensure this free guide is the most comprehensive ever produced in the area.”
