Scotland call up for School of Rugby player

Auchinleck Academy’s Jamie Drummond (15) has been selected for the Scotland U16 squad for the 2017 Colwyn Bay Rugby Festival in Wales.

The six-day festival will take place next week at Parc Eirias where the 50 selected players are split into two teams – the Reds and the Blues – and will play fixtures against Welsh teams, Dragons, Scarlets and RGC.

Headteacher Peter Gilchrist said: “I am absolutely delighted for Jamie. He has been selected to compete at the very highest level in his sport and I know that his strength of character and determination will help him shine. Jamie is a credit to himself, his PE Teacher Stephen Raby, who runs our School of Rugby, and to the school community as a whole.”
Grange and Cumnock Academies were the first ever Schools of Rugby in Scotland and have provided young people with the opportunity to participate in an enhanced curriculum timetable, which includes a rugby activity session every day.

The Auchinleck and Loudoun Academy Schools of Rugby were formed in 2015.

The roll out of the additional Schools of Rugby was made possible by a strong partnership between the Council, Scottish Rugby and Kilmarnock and Cumnock rugby clubs.
