Young people from around Kilmarnock took their opportunity to shape the future of the town at a seminar and workshop at “Take a Bow”. 60 pupils from Grange Campus, St Joseph’s and Park School gathered to identify their priorities for the future development of Sandbed Street.
They were joined by Council officers involved in waste management, East Ayrshire Leisure, procurement and planning.
Presented with a selection of ideas on a map of the area, each pupil was given 5 stickers and could select 5 different ideas that they want to see happen in that area.
The ideas were formulated at a previous schools workshop held in June 2019.
The pupils decided the top 5 priorities to make more use of the area and encourage people to enjoy the riverside landscape, should be improved lighting, an extensive cleanup, a pet area, planned graffiti, and a café looking on to the river.
The event was one of a series being held by the Kilmarnock Town Centre Regeneration Team to involve young people, businesses, community groups and non profit making organisations in shaping the future development of the town.
