The Ayrshire Roads Alliance, as part of its ongoing programme to improve the condition of the road network, will be carrying out major road resurfacing works on Ayr Road, Cumnock and Main Street, Auchinleck.
The works, which will take place over a five week period in July, will be carried out between Glaisnock Street and The Tanyard in Cumnock and from Bridgend Garage to Well Road in Auchinleck.
Preparatory works will start on Monday 4 July and will last for two weeks. This work will be carried out on Main Street between Coal Road junction and Station Road junction.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place during the preparatory works and Main Street will remain open.
The main resurfacing works will be carried out in four phases:
Phase 1 – From Bridgend Garage to approximately 90 Main Street – just north of Coal Road junction. This phase is programmed to start on Monday 18 July and will last for up to seven working days. The traffic on Main Street will be managed by convoy and lengthy delays are possible at peak times. The side roads at Church Hill and Coal Road will be closed at all times during the convoy operations and diversions will be in place.
Phase 2 – From 90 Main Street to a point between the Park Road junction and the Rail Bridge. This phase is programmed to start on Wednesday 27 July and will last for up to eight working days. This section of Main Street will be closed to traffic from 08:00 until 17:00 daily. Diversions will be in place.
Park Road will also be resurfaced during this phase.
Phase 3 – From the Rail Bridge to 220 Main Street – just north of Well Road junction. This phase is programmed to start on Monday 8 August and will last for up to five working days. This section of Main Street will be closed to traffic from 08:00 until 17:00 daily. Diversions will be in place.
Phase 4 – From the mini roundabout, Main Street junction with Sorn Road, Mauchline Road and Market Place. This phase is programmed to be undertaken over the weekend of Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July. The traffic on Main Street and Mauchline Road will be managed by convoy. The side roads at Sorn Road and Market Place will be closed at all times during the convoy operations and diversions will be in place, where applicable.
This extensive improvement project, which is weather dependent, will involve regulating the existing road surface, laying a new surface course, resetting ironware and renewing the associated road markings and road studs.
To ensure the safety of the roads operatives and the travelling public the affected sections of road will have to close at times during the works. Signed diversions will be in place and delays are expected.
The Ayrshire Roads Alliance apologises for any inconvenience caused during these essential road works.
