More people Eat Safe in East Ayrshire

Two East Ayrshire establishments have earned an Eat Safe Award for their high standards of hygiene, cleanliness and food safety.

Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Member for Older People and Community Safety, presented representatives from Bield Housing Association (Menzies Court) Cumnock and St Joseph’s Academy with an Eat Safe Award.

Councillor McMahon said: “Within East Ayrshire, the Eat Safe Award scheme from Food Standards Scotland is going from strength to strength.

“At the most recent presentation I was delighted to present certificates to the teams from Bield Housing Association and St Joseph’s Academy.

“Bield Housing Association is committed to providing the best care for their residents and ensuring that they provide the best quality food. I was pleased to present them with their award and to recognise their commitment to food safety.

“St Joseph’s Academy is the Council’s first educational establishment to receive an Eat Safe award. This is credit to the wonderful team working in the school kitchen. Everyday they display commitment to food safety, hygiene and to providing pupils and staff with delicious, nutritionally balanced meals. I was delighted to present them with their award.”

The Eat Safe award provides an incentive to food businesses to strive for food hygiene and food safety management standards beyond those that are required by law. For people eating in these establishments, it is sign of excellence in standards of food hygiene. It gives people extra confidence in the food they are served.

The Eat Safe Award sits in parallel with the Food Hygiene Information Scheme that rates hygiene standards against legal requirements. The Eat Safe Award recognises businesses that have achieved standards over and above the legal requirements.

Only eight other premises in East Ayrshire have earned an Eat Safe Award from Food Standards Scotland.

Environmental Health Services assess premises for the award as part of scheduled hygiene inspections. For further information please contact 01563 553520 or email environmentalhealth@east-ayrshire.gov.uk
