East Ayrshire Council is seeking ten new graduate interns to continue the success of the Graduate Intern Scheme which was introduced in 2014.
Ten Graduate Internships are being offered, which will start this autumn, and the successful applicants will follow in the footsteps of nine Graduate Interns who have completed their year with the Council and now moved on to employment within the Council and elsewhere. They will also join the Council’s three current Graduate Interns who started the programme earlier this year.
The internships are open to residents of East Ayrshire who have graduated with an HNC, HND or Degree and have not yet secured employment or are underemployed, having been unable to find employment in their chosen field.
Each intern is given a designated project to support and will work alongside a project sponsor. Areas in which they will work include Housing and Communities, Children’s Health, Care and Justice Services, Finance and Information Technology, Education and the Ayrshire Roads Alliance.
For the duration of the internship, graduates are full time employees of the Council and have access to all job opportunities that arise within it.
Interns are also provided with an intensive programme of support and development by the Council’s Organisational Development team. This programme includes an induction process, regular development sessions and the completion of a shared project. There is support as well for preparing CVs, job applications and undertaking mock interviews. They also have full access to the Council’s extensive learning and development opportunities available through the Learning Academy.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council, said: “As a Council we are doing all we can to help promote youth employment and training and the Graduate Intern Scheme fits in well with all our other projects. Thanks to our well integrated education system we have a great pool of talented and bright young graduates coming through and we’re keen to offer them the chance to stay in East Ayrshire for their benefit and the good of the local economy. We look forward to welcoming ten more interns to East Ayrshire soon.”
The ten new posts will be advertised from Tuesday 6 September at www.myjobscotland.gov.uk. Closing date for applications is Friday 23 September.
