Thousands of pupils from primary and secondary schools across East Ayrshire have been participating in a Competitive Sports Calendar, organised by Active Schools.
The sports calendar, which took place over the last academic year, involved over 2500 pupils. They participated in sport festival finals gaining points for placing and also for fair play. After some hard fought competitions and exemplary fair play Fenwick Primary topped the primary league table and St Joseph’s Academy topped the secondary league table.
During the year Active Schools worked closely with local sports clubs clearly demonstrating the importance of the school to club pathway. Ayrshire Gymnastics and Shortlees Netball Club provided support with the planning and delivery of a number of sport festivals and provided professional umpires and judges.
Support was received from the Regional Development Managers from a number of national governing bodies including Basketball Scotland, Handball Scotland, Netball Scotland and Scottish Volleyball.
A strong partnership with Ayrshire College also grew over the calendar year. Sports festival finals took place at the state of the art Ayrshire College and the Sports Students were delighted to help out at the sport festivals. A number of students are now volunteering regularly with Vibrant Communities thanks to this positive experience.
The 2017-18 Competitive School Sport Calendar will kick off after the summer break.
