Baby elves and Santas were spreading Christmas cuteness all around at the Babychat Onthank festive party this week.
The group for expectant mums and new parents held its Christmas party at Onthank Community centre to which Depute Provost Claire Leitch was invited. A special guest appearance was also made by Santa!
Babychat offers support with breastfeeding, advice about responsive formula feeding, baby massage and demonstrations on how to use the slings that are provided in the baby boxes. Bookbug is also delivered as part of the group and there are regular visits from other services, including Childsmile, Messy Munchers and family nurses.
The group was set up in August this year by East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership Health Visiting service in conjunction with the Infant Feeding Co-ordinator Elizabeth Smith and the Breastfeeding Network. Elizabeth said: “The group is free for everyone and is held every Wednesday from 1-3pm in Onthank Community Centre.
“As well as being for pregnant mums and new parents, other family members are welcome to come along too. Due to the great response we’ve had, we are organising a session soon especially for grans or other family members who’ll be able to find out the latest thinking on caring for babies.”
Depute Provost Leitch said: “This is a fantastic group which offers so much support and advice to soon-to-be and new parents. It’s also just a great opportunity for parents to get together and chat over the joys and challenges of having a little one.
“The babies had a great time at the party and really got into the Christmas spirit with their adorable outfits. I know that the group has been very busy and it would be great to see this idea rolled out to other areas within East Ayrshire in the future.”
