The Ayrshire and Arran Tourism Team is running a programme of learning journeys in the Autumn to support community groups who are looking to develop tourism projects.
Whether you want to develop a new event, a heritage trail or marketing campaign, these learning journeys are a great opportunity to see best practice community-led tourism projects across Scotland and the North of England. Participants will be able to see different tourism projects, learn what has worked and what hasn’t, and identify what actions they can take in their own community to enhance tourism.
The Tourism Team has identified potential destinations for the programme with input from communities. There will be an opportunity to hear from a wide range of people in order to get the maximum benefit from the visits. Individuals who had the initial ideas, the local tourism business community, and those who applied for funding to get them up and running!
After the visits, sessions will be held to identify key action points that can be developed in their own community and external funders that could support the future development of the specific projects.
Nat Edwards, Chair of the Ayrshire and Arran Tourism Leadership Group, said:
“Communities across Ayrshire and Arran are developing fantastic tourism projects and playing a critical role in the development of the visitor offering in the region. These learning journeys are a great opportunity for community groups to see and learn from other communities in Scotland and a little further afield”.
Councillor Bill Grant, Economic Development, Tourism and Leisure Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: “Ayrshire is an area of outstanding beauty with rich history which offers huge tourism potential for each of our local communities.
“The learning journeys give us the opportunity to work and learn together and promote the best of what we have to offer.”
The learning journeys are free and will take place in September 2014.
