Crime Prevention Panels are locally organised groups who work in partnership with the Police Scotland to identify local crime problems and initiate local crime prevention measures to deal with them. Panel members are usually Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators, local business people, teachers and members of local community councils. All bring their own area of expertise.
Panel activities are usually related to particular crime problems in the area. Panels draw up a programme of work and implement appropriate measures including fundraising to pay for security items for the homes of elderly residents in the area and organising safety quizzes in local primary schools.
There are two panels in East Ayrshire - one in the North covering the Kilmarnock and Loudoun area, and one in South covering the Cumnock and Doon Valley area.
