We have an common housing allocation (PDF 740Kb) policy which aims to:

  • address housing need
  • alleviate and prevent homelessness
  • maximise applicant access and choice
  • minimise suspensions
  • ensure that suspended applications are formally monitored
  • make best use of housing stock
  • promote equalities and diversity by avoiding discrimination on the grounds of race, disability, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion and belief
  • adopt a common approach in the provision of housing information to applicants
  • assess applicants in a clear and consistent manner whilst complying with all relevant legislation and good practice
  • promote and support sustainable communities
  • simplify the application process for applicants
  • let houses quickly and effectively in order to keep void rent loss to a minimum
  • deal with appeals and complaints fairly and consistently

In order to improve access for applicants seeking social rented housing the policy has been designed as a common allocations policy with our partner Registered Social Landlords (RSL's) - Atrium Homes, Cunninghame Housing Association, Riverside Scotland and Shire Housing Association.

The policy is based on a groups plus points scheme. This means that applicants are placed on the group most applicable to their circumstances and awarded points based on their current living arrangements. The groups are as follows:

  • homelessness group
  • strategic needs group
  • transfer group
  • waiting group
  • outwith the district group
