Plan ahead and stay safe

During the festive period, a number of social events are normally organised be it at home, local hotels, bars and clubs or in the workplace.  Whatever you are thinking of doing plan ahead, don't get caught out:

  • check the weather forecast
  • ensure that you have clothing that will keep you warm and dry
  • wear something bright that can be seen in poor visibility
  • make sure your mobile phone is fully charged
  • take enough money to get you home
  • arrange a lift or book a taxi, use a reputable taxi company and always check the driver's identification badge
  • tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return
  • don't go with strangers
  • avoid arguments and look after your friends
  • look after your valuables and belongings
  • don't leave drink unattended, spiking does happen
  • be drink aware, binge drinking can make you vulnerable to unwanted attention
  • if partying at home, consider your neighbours and keep the noise down
  • in adverse weather conditions only go out if it is really necessary
