Free school meals and clothing grants

Important update

We are changing how applications are dealt with for 2019/2020 and are currently working on a new online application form for both current and new recipients.

We will not be accepting forms for the coming year until the first week in June, please don’t apply before this date. Check back here for updates.

Entitlement

Currently you may be entitled to a clothing grant and/or free school meals if you are receiving any of the following benefits:

  • Income support/Universal Credit
  • Income-based Job Seeker's Allowance
  • Income Related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Child Tax Credit (depending on your annual income)
  • Working Tax Credit (depending on your annual income)
  • Housing Benefit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

Your child could be entitled to either free school meals/milk or a clothing grant of £100, or both. Free milk is not available to pupils attending secondary schools.

Pupils entitled to a free meal are also entitled to a free breakfast if the school runs a breakfast club.

Pupils aged between 16 and 18 who receive any of the benefits listed above in their own right, can also claim free school meals.

Application form

A new application form is being created. All applications will now be made online. Help will be available if you are not able to do this yourself. The form will be made available the first week in June.

Primary 1 - 3 free school meals

Since 5 January 2015, all children in primaries 1 to 3 are entitled to a free school meal. This is a great opportunity for children to sit down with their classmates and enjoy a nutritionally balanced two course meal sourced from our local suppliers.

Having a school meal will enable your child to enjoy the social interaction of eating in an environment where they can try different foods every day, and it can also help to increase their concentration for their afternoon classes. Staff will be in the dining halls every day to help and encourage your child, ensuring they have an enjoyable dining experience.

Please note that morning break and breakfast clubs are not covered by this meal entitlement so pupils will still have to bring money or have credit on their ParentPay accounts.
