Are you caring, reliable and flexible?
Can you spare a few hours each week?
Could you give extra support to a child or young person in East Ayrshire?
In return you will gain:
- comprehensive training
- ongoing support
- out of pocket expenses
- the satisfaction of making a difference to a young life
We are looking for people aged 16 and over, from all walks of life and a variety of backgrounds, who share one thing - a genuine interest in young people and a desire to spend time with them and make a difference in their lives. We are particularly looking for males to enable boys to share interests and activities. However we welcome interest from any volunteers, regardless of gender, who are committed, flexible and reliable with a few hours to spare each week.

Befriending is a great way to volunteer in your local community, In return for donating your time you will receive comprehensive training, the ongoing support of a full time worker and out of pocket expenses. You will have fun and at the same time you will be able to help a child or young person to develop their confidence and self-esteem.
Befrienders and the children and young people they support will decide together what they will do each week. Our Vibrant Communities team and their partners provide lots of free or subsidised activities within the community.
We ask for two references and require that all Befrienders apply to join the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups). We pay the cost of joining the scheme. Training programmes are run in September and January.
To find out more about befriending opportunities and the positive impact it has on the befrienders and befriendees please see our befriending newsletter.
