Our Sports Development staff are responsible for assisting with the local development of clubs, coaches and volunteers – East Ayrshire’s sporting infrastructure.
Without well-qualified coaches and volunteers, the Sports Development staff would not be able to deliver any of these programmes. Similarly, strong voluntary sports clubs are essential in ensuring that opportunities exist for both participation and excellence level sport.
Central to this, and overlapping priority sports and priority groups, is the post of Sports Development Officer. This officer is responsible or the organisation of coach education programmes, child protection procedures and is the key point of contact for East Ayrshire’s voluntary sports sector on issues such as funding and club development.
The Young People, Sports and Diversion Team oversees the work of East Ayrshire Sports Council, which exists to support the work of local voluntary sports clubs. The Sports Council offers clubs the opportunity to gain:
- free or reduced coach education awards
- regular updates and bulletins about sports development
- access to Grant Aid
