During the first lockdown in March 2020 we had to cancel all classes we delivered, including the walks.
After the restrictions lifted we began working towards returning our face to face delivery which included consultations and classes. Unfortunately the restrictions have meant that we are unable to return to normal delivery. We are currently supporting our existing participants with wellbeing check calls and we have produced some DVDs and online content. There is also continued support being provided to the community during these challenging times.
Activity on prescription
We are working with GPs and health professionals towards resuming the Activity on Prescription programme when it is safe to do so. We have provided DVDs to our existing participants to try and keep them active. We have also piloted a few online Invgor8 and Yoga classes over video conferencing.
Move More is offering live online classes and health walks throughout the week. The classes are held over Vscene and have been keeping people active since launching in September 2020. We are accepting referrals from the Cancer Nurse Specialists at NHS Ayrshire & Arran and supporting our existing participants.
Our walks are held at Dean Park, Stewarton and Dumfries House. They are all socially distanced and in line with the COVID-19 guidelines. They have been a success since starting back and are great for getting out in the fresh air and doing some exercise.
This is a difficult time for those living with and beyond cancer. If you would like more help and advice visit the MacMillan Cancer Support website
Your path to better health and wellbeing
We are currently working hard on adapting the Your Path to Better Health and Wellbeing Programme into an online format which we hope will be available in early 2021.
If you are concerned about your own or someone else’s mental health then have a look at our help and support section below.
Walking groups at Dean Castle Country Park will restart on Monday 11 January 2021 and Dumfries House will restart on Thursday 14 January 2021.
Our numbers need to be limited due to COVID-19 restrictions and are subject to strict social distancing. If you are interested in coming along to one of our walks then use the contact details below. Booking is essential.
In the meantime, if you are interested in finding walks in your local area why not check out Ayrshire Paths or Gillian's Walks both of which have lots of interesting and varied walk routes to suit all ages and abilities. The Paths for All website also offers lots of interesting articles on walking.
Remember and check travel rules depending on what COVID-19 level your region is in and where possible try and stay close to home.
Weight to go
It can be difficult to manage your own eating habits and health during this challenging time. For more information on completing a 12 week programme visit the NHS website.
NHS Ayrshire & Arran have a Healthy Weight Ayrshire & Arran Facebook page which is regularly updated with tips for portion control and health eating strategies.
