Vulnerable Witnesses (Scotland) Act 2004

Vital Voices continues a programme of work on the law of evidence started by the Scottish Office in November 1998 with the issue of a consultative document on vulnerable and intimidated witnesses in criminal and civil cases, entitled 'Towards a Just Conclusion'.
The link under the external links section will take you to the Scottish Government's Victims and Witnesses Unit web pages. There you can learn more about the work being done to help victims and vulnerable witnesses including child witnesses. The First Minister announced the Scottish Government's intention to legislate to protect vulnerable witnesses as part of his wider announcements on the proposed legislative programme, and the Vulnerable Witnesses (Scotland) Act 2004 received Royal Assent on 14 April 2004.
The Justice 2 Committee web page contains links to other organisations and agencies that are working to help vulnerable witnesses, as well as news on the work of the Victims and Witnesses Unit and progress on implementation of the Vulnerable Witnesses Act.
